A visitor's report on their Auvergne holiday at La Verrerie

Direct from the visitor log!

The Auvergne exceeded all our expectations. What beautiful countryside. Every small road with its twists and turns reveals another corner of magic… Our last day – magic! Lunch in Usson at The Auberge de Margot was absolutely wonderful. Lovely food, great ambiance and a view to die for, and all just 10 minutes from home.

Jo and John, NSW Australia. April 2011.

What a magical place! We have had a fantastic two weeks here, thoroughly enjoying the views, pool, garden, and cosy gite…

I really enjoyed my holiday in France because there was a lot to do, my favourite part going out was going up to the top of the mountains and looking at the view. At the house I really enjoyed playing pingpong and havnig lots of wine and beer too!

A lovely relaxed week in this beautiful area of France. We have enjoyed walking both near and far. We found the gite very comfortable and well equipped.

Anne and Roy. June 2007 – G1.

A wonderful view-filled restful week in a stunningly beautiful part of the world! We strongly recommend a walk to Egliseneuve, and the restaurant Place de la Marie in Sauxillanges was “Magnifique”. We ream of pears and foie gras…

The gite was very cosy with the fire on colder days – a retreat indeed, and the kids loved it.

We shall return.

Extracts from a very long entry:-

… Usson is v attractive, wonderful views all around in good visibility. Auberge do Margot has excellent local fare €18 and €21 menus… Ambert market is excellent, extensive, and well worth the drive (Ambert market is on Thursday mornings! ed.) La Taverne did a good lunch. We preferred Ambert market to Billom. (Billom market is Monday mornings! ed.)… Sauxillanges outside swimming pool is quite small but very pleasant, clean and inexpensive. Vernet-la-varenne has a nice lake for swimming and pedalos, not too busy and not too far…La Marie restaurant in Sauxillanges – we agree with Chris and Liz. Superb. 6-course menu for €39 was excellent… we like the Escagot D’Or in the Place de la Republique ni Issore – good simple food, friendly folks, regional menu, reasonable prices… enough, enough! A lovely holiday, & what views from the garden! Sitting in the garden glow of the setting sun with a glass of bubbly… I could get used to this.

Peter and Fran, and Catherine. August 2006 – G2.
